Chunky Stripey Baby Blanket

Rectangle Blanket
Rectangle Blanket

I adapted the simple Moss Stitch to include a Chained Selvedge, which makes a neat border along the edge of the blanket. I had to pay close attention to my pattern during this project, and made sure I used a Stitch Counter to keep track of my rows!

Difficulty: Easy-moderate

Size of finished project: 28×34 inches

Materials:

  • 10mm circular knitting needles (80 cm length) – I used Pony Interchangeable Cable & Shank
  • 3 balls of King Cole Big Value Super Chunky 100g – Pink 0030 (Dye 78218)
  • 2 balls of King Cole Big Value Super Chunky 100g – Grey 0024 (Dye 78479)
  • Blunt sewing needle (for sewing in ends)

Pattern:

K=knit; P=purl

Sl=slip stitch; wyib=with yarn in behind; wyif=with yarn in front

  • Cast on 77 stitches with pink wool
  • Row 1: Sl1 wyib, K1, *K1, P1, REPEAT FROM * TO LAST 3 STITCHES, K1, Sl1 wyib, P1
  • Row 2: Sl1 wyib, P1, *K1, P1, REPEAT FROM * TO LAST 3 STITCHES, K1, Sl1 wyif, P1
  • Row 3: Sl1 wyib, K1, *P1, K1, REPEAT FROM * TO LAST 3 STITCHES, P1, Sl1 wyib, P1
  • Row 4: Sl1 wyib, P1, *P1, K1, REPEAT FROM * TO LAST 3 STITCHES, P1, Sl1 wyif, P1
  • Repeat rows 1-4 until 1 pink ball of wool runs out (ending on row 4) – this worked out to be 24 rows for me
  • Change to grey ball of wool
  • Repeat rows 1-4 until 1 grey ball of wool runs out (ending on row 4) – this should be the same number of rows as for the pink ball of wool
  • Repeat for remaining balls of wool, alternating colours
  • Cast off
  • Sew in loose ends
